They have witnessed many a sporting battle as bowlers try to outwit each other on Great Yarmouth's Golden Mile.

But two of Great Yarmouth's four bowling greens have been left neglected, overgrown and in need of some TLC.

Weeds are growing on the once-immaculately mowed Yarmouth Courts greens between the North Drive basketball court and Euston Road car park. And rather than the odd poorly aimed bowl, litter is now collecting inside the ditches.

Emma Flaxman-Taylor, the council's lead for housing, health and communities, said the teams currently playing on the lawns beside the Britannia Pier occasionally use the old greens for practice.

But, Ms Flaxman-Taylor said: "There's nothing else in the pipeline for that area currently."

FESTIVAL OF BOWLS

Later this summer, the 77th Visit Great Yarmouth Festival of Bowls will be taking place at the greens by the pier.

The tournament will run from August 25 until September 21, with 12 events scheduled, including men's and ladies' singles, pairs and triples, over 60s and under 21s.
