Plans for 49 new homes have been given the final go-ahead despite objections from neighbours.

Proposals for the former Tamar Nurseries site at West Walton, near Wisbech, have been in the pipeline for eight years.

West Norfolk council officials have now agreed detailed plans for the layout of the development, off School Road, which also includes a new village store and post office.

The go-ahead comes despite 13 objections posted on the council's planning portal from people living around the site, some of whom feared their homes would be overlooked by new properties.

Jurate Trumpickiene said: "I moved from town to village because of noise and now I will need to move again for the same reason.

"I like the place where I live now, I like my neighbours and don't want to move or have all these changes."

Jennie Shin said: "Like many people we moved here purely for the quiet cul-de-sac location without being overlooked by several properties."

Lucy Wyness added: "The development is too big for such a small village with no infrastructure to accommodate another large scale development."

Similar objections were received before outline permission was granted for the development in 2017.

A mixture of two, three and four-bed detached and semi-detached homes, including 10 affordable properties have been agreed for the site.

A planning officer's report said the layout is "the best achievable" for the site and provides "acceptable separation distances between new and existing residential development".

It concludes: "This development would provide 49 dwellings plus a village store on a site with extant outline planning permission that will support the local economy and address housing needs in an area considered highly sustainable."
