With this year's summer weather off to a wet and windy start, a trip to the beach when the sun actually does shine is a must.

The Times has ranked its top 20 places to live by the sea and Cromer has scooped a spot on the list.

The article said: "With its famous crabs, blue-flag beaches and a pier that hosts the UK’s only full-season, end-of-the-pier variety show, Cromer has everything you need for a traditional bucket-and-spade getaway."

Writer Tim Palmer also noted its up-and-coming "arty tinge", with its growing number of galleries and local coffee roasters, such as Grey Seal, a benefit to the town.

Overlooking the sea is the town's famous fish and chip shop - owned by Michelin-starred Galton Blackiston, Downstairs at No.1, it has been listed as a top-notch chip shop.

Mr Palmer added: "It’s cheaper than Blakeney, Wells-next-the-Sea and the fancier retirement resorts along the Norfolk coast - and livelier in winter too."

The average house price for people looking to buy in the town is £292,494.
