Traffic is building on the A47 after a section of the road was closed for repair and maintenance works.

Beaufort Way in Gorleston closed this morning so that repairs to the road could be made after a large sinkhole developed.

The road is closed in both directions between the A47 roundabout and the Beaufort Way roundabout near Toby Carvery Captain Mamby.

One of our technicians had programmed for a contractor to go in and repair it, however, since then a hole has appeared and our team identified signs of subsidence.

"Due to the possible size of the subsidence, and to ensure a safe working environment for our teams, an Emergency Road Closure was scheduled and we are now addressing the issue."

Traffic coming into Gorleston on the A47 from the south is very slow and drivers are experiencing delays of around 10 minutes.

A signed diversion route is in place for the works which are expected to be completed by Friday.

The footpath along the road will remain open during the works.
