An inquest into the death of the victim of a driver who took a selfie at the wheel moments before a crash could still go ahead.

David Sinar, from North Walsham, died after a car driven by 23-year-old Amber Potter crashed into the back of his Lambretta scooter on September 15 last year. He was 64.

Potter, of Livingstone Road, Norwich, was jailed for causing death by dangerous driving earlier this month, with Norwich Crown Court hearing she had taken a photograph at the wheel just moments before the fatal incident on the A11.

On Friday, Norfolk Coroner's Court heard that an inquest into the full circumstances of Mr Sinar's death could still go ahead - if his family so choose.

The inquest opened on September 24 last year - nine days after his death - but the investigation has been on hold due to the criminal proceedings in the crown court.

The Coroner's Act stipulates that hearings can be permanently suspended when the purpose of the inquest is fulfilled in other courts.

However, area coroner Samantha Goward said the office was waiting to see whether Mr Sinar's family are satisfied for this to happen.

The case was adjourned until December 13.
