A violent knifeman with 90 previous offences has been given an indefinite restraining order after threatening to stab a woman.

Dean White, 31, verbally abused and threatened his terrified former partner during a confrontation when she was on a night out with friends on Prince of Wales Road in Norwich.

Norwich Crown Court was told he had followed her into a club and had been armed with a knife during the incident on March 15.

Chris Youell, prosecuting, said he had shouted sexual slurs and had threatened “wait until tonight and I’ll stab you”.

The court was shown CCTV footage in which White could be seen taking a lock knife out of his pocket and showing it to a nightclub doorman.

White, who appeared via video link from HMP Norwich, admitted possession of a knife and two breaches of an existing restraining order following a previous assault on his ex.

He had previously been arrested at his former partner’s flat in December 2023 when he was banned from contact.

Recorder Nicola Fitches jailed him for two years and two months and warned he faces up to a further five years for further restraining order breaches.

She told him: “You continue to cause fear and distress to your victim.”

In tears, his former partner told the court: “I’m scared to leave my flat and am constantly watching my back. I fear I will have to leave Norwich to get away from him because otherwise he will kill me.

“He will not let me go and is still trying to control me. In my eyes he is a high risk.”

White had faced a third-strike mandatory jail sentence having twice been jailed for previous knife offences.

Rob Pollington, mitigating, said he was a  “Jekyll and Hyde” character for who the worst comes out when he is drunk.
