It has been drawing theatre lovers to the coastal town for nearly 125 years.

Now, a major revamp hopes to secure its future, with the first phase of renovations set to get the go-ahead.

Gorleston's Pavilion Theatre has applied to carry out significant repairs to its roof and other parts of the building.

The bid will be decided next week by Great Yarmouth Borough Council development committee members.

It follows the venue entering a fresh chapter after coming into the hands of a new registered charity, headed by one of its long-term trustees.

The Gorleston Pavilion Trust has started work on a feasibility study for an ambitious multi-million pound Heritage Lottery bid in the hope of transforming the venue and its surrounding areas into a "nationally recognised centre of excellence".
