The title of Large Business of the Year at the EDP Business Awards 2024 will go to a firm that is committed to growing while also building a strong culture and having a local impact.

Jamie Waller, director at the Large Business of the Year award sponsor Ensors, tells us more about what he will be expecting as a judge.

Can you tell us a bit about your business journey?

I have lived in Norwich my entire life and worked in the accountancy profession for nearly 15 years, focusing on auditing medium to large businesses.

I joined Ensors to establish its new office in Norwich, having previously worked at two
top five global accountancy firms.

Why were you keen to get involved in the awards?

Having been to the awards previously, I was keen to get the firm involved to celebrate the success stories of our region.

Having worked with so many large businesses, it felt important to recognise their wins and give back to that community.

Have you ever been judged for an award yourself?

I haven’t personally, but Ensors have won and been shortlisted for a number of awards.

Will you use that experience when judging this award?

We understand that submitting an entry takes a considerable amount of time and effort, therefore I will ensure to recognise that dedication as a commitment to continuing the business’ success.

What have your previous experiences of judging been like?

I’ve always enjoyed understanding and learning about different businesses, from the internal operations to their business models as a whole. But what stands out is the people that have the passion to drive their organisation.

What inspires you in business?

As a Norwich native, I am inspired by local businesses whose roots and foundation have been solidified in the region. Working together propels the success of our area for our generation and those that follow.

What will you be looking for in the winner?

A worthy winner of large business of the year would be a firm that has a clear commitment to developing the business and harnessing the potential from within.

It isn’t just about the numbers, it’s the culture and local impact that is deserving of an accolade.

What advice would you give to a business that’s considering entering?

The EDP is a brilliant platform to showcase your business and the opportunities within this award are invaluable.

Consider what makes your firm special and relay that to us with supporting testimonials from staff and clients alike.
