A government official has visited Thetford to discuss plans for a huge new investment.

Central Government’s Town Funds Tsar met with senior representatives from Breckland Council to explore how the town could benefit from a £20m cash injection.

As part of the national budget, Thetford stands to gain this fund from the national Long Term Plans for Towns Fund.

During the visit, the potential plans for a new Thetford independent board, tasked with overseeing the funding's utilisation, were also discussed.

Sam Chapman-Allen, leader of Breckland Council, and Maxine O'Mahony, Breckland Council’s chief executive, took Town Funds Tsar Adam Hawksbee and his team from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities on a tour of the town.

Mr Chapman-Allen said: "We were delighted to welcome Mr Hawksbee to Thetford and show him and his team first-hand how the Government’s investment could unlock the tremendous opportunity of this important Breckland town.

"This money can help drive regeneration, economic growth, and improved quality of life for Thetford residents and businesses, as well as creating ripples across the district and wider county.”
