A Norfolk academy has been recognised for embedding arts and culture in its curriculum.

Pupils and staff at Nelson Academy in Downham Market are celebrating after receiving a prestigious award.

This creative quality stamp, accredited by Arts Council England, celebrates schools that excel in bringing art and culture into their whole curriculum.

In order to receive their Artsmark, Nelson Academy worked diligently to expand their arts and cultural provision within a broad and ambitious curriculum.

The plan was thoughtfully executed across the entire school, in collaboration with partners like PEACH and Art UK’s Superpower of Looking.

Nelson Academy principal, Sarah Wilson, said: “We’re extremely proud of achieving our Artsmark Gold Award.

"We are committed to delivering a high-quality arts and cultural education and we look forward to continuing to grow with Artsmark.”

Dr Darren Henley OBE, chief executive of the Arts Council, said: "Becoming an Artsmark school demonstrates that through offering a broad, ambitious and creative curriculum, young people have the opportunity to develop character and resilience, increasing their knowledge, curiosity and skills that will remain with them through to adult life.”
