A retired office manager died a year after falling in his garden, a court has heard.
Charles Smith, of Roydon, near Diss, fell over at his home while gardening in March last year.
He was admitted to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, where he underwent an operation for a broken hip on March 16.
The 85-year-old had more surgery the following month, and then again on January 10 this year due to on-going problems.
Despite treatment, he continued to suffer from several complications so remained in hospital.
He was eventually transferred to Priscilla Bacon Lodge for palliative care and died there on April 30.
The primary medical cause of death was given as “fragility and recurrent sepsis from multiple sources”.
An inquest into his death was opened at Norfolk Coroner’s Court on May 9.
Area coroner Samantha Goward confirmed that Mr Smith had been born in 1938 in Newham, London.
