Video footage has captured the moment someone set fire to a visually impaired man's car in a seemingly random act of arson.

The incident happened in George Winter Court, in Catton Grove, when a Nissan Juke was seen on fire in the middle of the night.

David Allen, who is registered blind and has a close friend help drive him around the city, was woken up by frantic neighbours during the early hours of Wednesday to say his car was on fire.

CCTV footage shows someone setting alight to an item and placing it under the vehicle just before 12.30am.

Mr Allen, 60, said: "My neighbours raised the alarm for me and when I went outside all I could do was see the flames coming from my car.

"It's shocking and I was in somewhat of a trance on Wednesday so it's only really kicking in now that it happened.

"The most frustrating part is it seems totally out of the blue.

"There's no reason for anybody to do this to me - it just seems some scumbag has taken offence to my car."

Mr Allen worries for others in the area if the person responsible isn't caught soon, adding: "This is a lovely place here with fantastic neighbours who all support each other.

"Now they're worrying if they park their car around here it will happen to them next.

"It's just so annoying because it feels like such a random act of violence towards me and then I worry if someone does have a grudge."
