A new traditional pie and mash shop has opened on the seafront of a coastal town.

Gannon's Pie and Mash Shop at East Point Pavilion in Lowestoft opened last month offering a traditional London dish for coast-side dining or home delivery.

Serving comfort food and East London nostalgia, the shop offers a family treat, a convenient "hang-over cure", or an opportunity for the community to "remember their roots".

The award-winning handmade pies are freshly made and sourced from Goddard’s in Greenwich which was founded in 1890.

The shop offers single and double portion sizes with pie options including minced beef, chicken and mushroom, steak and kidney, steak and ale and a vegan option.

Shop-owner Adrian Evans moved from London to retire in a houseboat on the coast and was struck by the opportunity for a "niche in the market".

Mr Evans said: "It was like an epiphany, there were no pie and mash shops in the area.

"It used to be a pauper's food from east London, but now it's so popular because it's special, the tradition is reminiscent of a time gone by.

"For the older generations, it reminds them of being kids again, they come out with their families for a treat.

"It's really rewarding, plates come back clean and it puts smiles on people's faces," Mr Evans said.
