A homeless man who was living rough with his horse has denied assaulting two officials when they came to evict him from a village playing field.

Tony Gurney, 55, of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty to assaulting Brancaster Parish Council chairman Tom de Winton and assaulting parish clerk Simon Bower when he appeared before King's Lynn Magistrates.

He also denied using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour intended to cause Mr De Winton and Mr Bower harassment, alarm or distress.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at Brancaster, on January 20, when Mr De Winton and Mr Bower were attempting to serve eviction notices on Mr Gurney.

The case was adjourned for trial at Lynn Magistrates on Tuesday, November 12.

Gurney was bailed to attend court on that date.
