Junior doctors across Norfolk and Waveney will stage their latest walk-out this weekend - which is due to last well into next week.

The next phase of the national strike will begin at 7am on Saturday, with participants not set to return to work until midnight on Wednesday.

Health bosses locally say this will produce widespread disruption for patients as the majority of routine care is put on hold as the NHS priorities urgent and emergency services.

It comes after new data showed that one in every 10 days has been impacted by some form of industrial action over the past year.

Edward Morris, regional medical director for the NHS in the east of England said: "While we continue to experience high demand we prepare for more disruption triggered by another round of industrial action.

"Many planned appointments unfortunately are likely to be postponed."

Previous rounds of industrial action from junior doctors saw more than 12,500 appointments cancelled in the east of England - with 2,600 workers taking part in the action.

Patients are encouraged to still attend appointments unless they have been told otherwise.
