A 21-year-old man has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a woman by dangerous driving and injuring another.

Teegan Brabant, of Litcham Road, Mileham, near King's Lynn, was behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta when it ploughed into a tree on the B1110 at Elmham, near Dereham, in the early hours of Saturday, September 17, 2022.

Passenger Mariana Faustino-Valente, 18, suffered serious injuries and died two days later at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Another woman travelling in the car, Lynzie-Jane Vecchio, was also injured.

On Thursday, Brabant spoke only to confirm his name, age and address during a brief hearing at King's Lynn magistrates court, where the charges against him were read out in full.

They are that he caused the death of Miss Faustino-Valente by driving a Ford Fiesta dangerously on the B1110 Dereham Road North, and that he caused bodily harm by wanton or furious driving to Miss Vecchio.

Brabant was told the offences could only be dealt with by a judge and jury and the case was adjourned until March 21 for a plea and trial preparation hearing at Norwich Crown Court.

Brabant was released on unconditional bail.
