A motorist ran over a man in a Norfolk car park following a row between them, a court has heard.

Danny Cross, 24, was in his car with a young woman at the Queen's Square car park in Attleborough when he saw the victim.

Norwich Crown Court heard the pair had had a previous disagreement and the other man was "trying to wind up" Cross.

Cross turned on his engine before driving at "some speed" towards the victim, who attempted to get on the bonnet as the car came towards him.

She said Cross had "used the vehicle as a weapon" in the attack which happened on September 27 2021.

Cross, of Lake View, Great Ellingham, appeared at court on Wednesday (February 7) having previously admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He had to miss days on a sports course at college as a result of the injuries he sustained and still had pain in his foot.

Recorder Ruth Brander said the victim suffered "quite nasty cuts" as a result of the incident but "luckily" did not suffer more serious injuries, like fractures or broken bones.

Imposing an 18-month community order Recorder Brander regarded it as an "impulsive act" and "accepted you weren't deliberately using the car as a highly dangerous weapon".

Andrew Oliver, mitigating, said Cross had driven away from the man, but the victim came over and put his hands on the bonnet of the car.

He said Cross had not purposely used the car as a weapon and had "wanted to get away from the situation" but in so doing caused the injuries to the victim.

Mr Oliver said Cross caused the injuries on a "reckless" basis in what was a "very short incident".

Cross was also given 15 days Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) and 100 hours unpaid work.
