A man in his 70s who died after crashing his car into a tree has been named after an inquest opened into his death.

Peter Thomas died of traumatic injuries following a crash off Melton Road, near Wymondham, two weeks ago. He was 72.

An inquest into his death opened on Tuesday at Norfolk Coroner's Court in County Hall.

During the short hearing, area coroner Yvonne Blake confirmed that Mr Thomas was born in Bethnal Green in London, but lived in Hethersett.

The court heard Mr Thomas, who was a retired builder, died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries he suffered in the collision.

The incident happened at 11.41am on Monday, January 22, when the red Seat Ibiza being driven by Mr Thomas careered off the road and crashed into a tree.

Mrs Blake adjourned the hearing for a full inquest, which is due to be held on Monday, August 5 at 2pm.
