The finalists have been announced for the Customer Excellence Award, sponsored by Greater Anglia, at the Eastern Daily Press Business Awards 2023

The winner of this award will be a business that is able to demonstrate how it exemplifies outstanding customer service, consistently delivered at the highest level, by a customer-focused individual or team.  

MAD-HR

With offices in Norwich, Ipswich and Chelmsford, MAD-HR is a trusted HR consultancy with a unique approach to combining personal delivery, commercial acumen and 24-7 tech solutions.

It supports businesses across East Anglia with all employee, performance and team development issues and has a sharp focus on productivity, profitability, and employee engagement.

MAD-HR was awarded the Platinum Trusted Service Award by Feefo earlier this year, following three consecutive years of achieving the gold standard.

Praising the team’s “passion and energy” which “shone through every interaction”, the judges said that MAD-HR’s “dedication to its industry and fervour for service improvement were crystal clear, making the entire experience with them truly impressive”.

Jarrold Training

Jarrold Training in Norwich is a division of Jarrold & Sons, a family owned, independent business founded in 1770.

Over 35 years, it has grown into one of the leading regional business training and development providers, working with hundreds of private, public and voluntary sector organisations.

From its Grade I listed training centre, the business runs regular public scheduled courses and also delivers training programmes at clients’ premises throughout East Anglia and the UK.

The judges said that Jarrold Training presented “a truly impressive application” and praised its “holistic approach to the training journey”.

They also said that “the team’s passion is palpable” and “the culture of continuous growth they’ve cultivated is noteworthy”.

River Green Restaurant

Established in 2011 as a vegetarian restaurant on the edge of Norwich, River Green has been transformed since chef Chris Avey joined and became director in 2016.

The now vegan menu changes daily and uses local suppliers where possible.

Part of the restaurant has been repurposed as a teaching kitchen and The Garden Room has also been added for small gatherings or as a pop-up café.

The judges commended River Green’s “dedication to a vegan and sustainable ethos”.

They praised the restaurant’s “well-defined values, mission, and initiative to train amateur chefs” and said that this “reflects a deep-rooted passion for its craft and community”.

Step Teachers

Founded by two teachers, Step Teachers in Norwich is a leading education recruitment agency that was established in 2000.

Since then, it has successfully placed over 8,000 teachers and support staff in partner schools across southern England.

The agency is a member of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and has been selected as a supplier on the Crown Commercial Service’s Supply Teachers and Temporary Staff Framework.

The judges said that “meeting with the panel from Step Teachers was a genuinely enriching experience”.

They felt an “obvious passion for education” and a “genuine desire to make impactful improvements” throughout the interaction and said that the business provides “balanced care for both placements and the schools”.
